The nose starts fruity, with fresh cherries and wild strawberries, but a leathery, spicy savoriness emerges over time. On the palate, the spice bounces around a citrus note that underscores a deeper red fruitiness, until imposing tannins put up the velvet ropes and usher in a dark chocolate richness. — Danielle Callegari

Belpoggio is a 10-hectare estate, with 5 hectares dedicated to Sangiovese vines and the remainder to olive groves. It is located in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, Montalcino, just 500 meters from the renowned Abbey of Sant’Antimo. The estate offers breathtaking views of the Val d’Orcia and Monte Amiata. On the property, you’ll find a historic farmhouse that has been restored, along with a newly built winery equipped with state-of-the-art winemaking technology, focusing particularly on the aging process.

Thanks to the unique positioning of the vineyards, which face southwest at an elevation of 400 meters, the terroir offers ideal conditions for exceptional wine production and sustainable agricultural practices.

International Wine & Spirit Competition scored this 93 points saying, “Super refined. Plum, citrus peel and tobacco leaf with some graphite sprinkled into the mix. Incredibly fine tannins and a lavender-like finish. Great!”

Wine Enthusiast scored this 92 points saying, “The nose starts fruity, with fresh cherries and wild strawberries, but a leathery, spicy savoriness emerges over time. On the palate, the spice bounces around a citrus note that underscores a deeper red fruitiness, until imposing tannins put up the velvet ropes and usher in a dark chocolate richness.”

James Suckling also scored this 92 points saying, “Savory and meaty with aromas of cassis, currants, oregano, wet leather and spice box. Full-bodied, with firm and chewy tannins. Nice earthy and meaty undertones. Better after 2024.”
