During the Swiss rule (1512–1797), these finest plots were “tense”, meaning they were protected by armed guards. These south-facing, extreme plots give forth a particularly elegant version of Mountain Nebbiolo. It carries the airy, poised character typical of Valtellina Nebbiolo, yet the flavours feel a touch more open and immediately appealing.
