Harmonious and complex...'
96 Points
The Stonegarten vineyard, just out of Springton in Eden Valley, is a sought after source of grenache for some of the region's best producers, the 160+ year old, well-farmed vines are quite a drawcard. The aromatic profile is subtle, filigreed. Red cherry, red plum and raspberry with transitory tones of exotic spice, pressed wildflowers, gingerbread, red licorice, stone, subdued cola and gentle wood spice that flit in and out of view. Harmonious and complex with a gorgeous red fruit profile, layers of spice and a savoury finish that glides away slowly. Lovely.

2022 Vintage:
The 2022 vintage was set up beautifully with good soil moisture carrying over from the mild 2021 vintage. A significant October hail event reduced yields in some vineyards, but luckily most escaped without impacting quality. La Nina influenced
weather patterns resulted in mild harvest conditions again, allowing for even flavour accumulation and vibrant aromatics
and acidity. A standout season.
This Grenache was sourced a single Eden Valley ancestor vineyard over 150
years old.
Winemaking: Fermentation occurred in a small, open top fermenter,
incorporating a small number of whole bunches to accentuate Grenache’s
savoury characters. The wine was barrel matured for 14 months in a seasoned
French oak hogsheads and puncheons. Only 300 cases produced.
Winemakers’ notes:
Nose: Bright raspberry, red cherry, and floral top notes with a core of savoury
spice.
Palate: Generous, deep layers of spicy red fruits, some savoury earth, showing
tension between the fruit and fine tannins. Finishes long and pure.
