Freycinet Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2019 x 12
2019 Freycinet
Cabernet Merlot
“Deep crimson in the glass with bright aromas of plush red plum,
blackberry and summer berries with hints of baked herbs, cedar,
tobacco pouch, olive tapenade, spice and pressed purple flowers.
Velvety smooth and pure on the palate, fine grainy tannins providing
ample support, sailing off long and true”- Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion. 94 points
Viticulture & Winemaking
Our sheltered amphitheatre site provides additional warmth, allowing
for the development of bold and richly flavoured wines.
Mature vines are meticulously hand tended and handpicked, ensuring
optimal ripeness. In the winery, fruit is hand sorted and destemmed to
ensure fragrance and intensity of flavour. The combination of Cabernet
Sauvignon, Merlot and a sprinkling of Cabernet Franc ensures the ideal
balance of plush berry fruit, spice and herbaceous, savoury complexity.
Extended post ferment maceration and long maturation in barriques has
allowed for the development of assertive yet elegant tannins.
Vintage Conditions
The 2019 season produced a classic high quality east coast vintage.
Winter and spring were warmer and drier leading to earlier budburst
which followed through to an to earlier harvest. The mild conditions in
combination with well-timed rains through summer and autumn enabled
moderate yields to ripen optimally, producing excellent quality fruit across
all varieties.
Winemaker’s Notes
A unique expression of place, this wine is predominately Cabernet
Sauvignon (80%) complimented by Merlot (15%) and Cabernet Franc
(5%), all from 25– 30 year old vines.
Deep ruby with a hint of purple, heady aromas of cigar box, cassis and
liquorice fill the glass. The supple and harmonious palate melds juicy
plums, ripe berries and black currant with liquorice, spice, herbs and
black olives which are further complemented by attractively integrated
savoury oak. Extended maturation in French oak barriques has created
fine, silty tannins and a long finish, promising to reward with careful
cellaring up to 20 years.
Freycinet Vineyard

region revealed exciting quality potential in wines and now boasts over
a dozen different vineyards. Freycinet Vineyard wines are produced with
great care, dedication and passion- they are a delicious liquid expression
of our unique place on earth, the varieties and the seasons.
