VINTAGE
2023 was a very long and cool season producing elegant, well-structured wines
with excellent ageing potential.
WINE MAKING
Multiple clones of Chardonnay were handpicked into small baskets before
being basket pressed. The juice was fermented in French oak barriques
(25% new). Most barrels underwent spontaneous fermentation with indigenous
yeasts, while others were seeded with select strains.
Frequent bâttonage was carried out for a period of two months, and malolactic
fermentation was allowed to occur naturally. The wine was left to mature in the
oak for nine months prior to racking, blending and bottling.
'...a pure and refreshing expression of the variety.'
92 Points
A cool and lively chardonnay that swishes around the palate with tropical fruits, gingery spice, some wet hay and hazelnut characters, all well synched and delivering a pure and refreshing expression of the variety. Perhaps a quibble would be the somewhat looser-knit and diffuse fruit character, but pleasure is here and so is ease of drinking.
