Battenfeld Spanier Molsheim Riesling 2022 x 6
Product Description
Erste Lage is characterized by first-class vineyards with special
characteristics. Our Mölsheim vineyards are comparatively high
and are therefore cooler than our Hohen-Sülzen vineyards. Deeply rooted in
stony, barren soils of pure limestone with only a small humus deposit,
the grapes for the Mölsheim Riesling from Erste Lagen ripen well aerated thanks to
the cool winds of the Donnersberg massif. This results in single-character
wines with crystalline, cool character and mineral
depth. Hand-picked and spontaneously fermented, the wines mature in large wooden barrels on the fine lees until the
following spring. The wine sparkles in bright yellow and is disciplined on the nose:
the fruit is clearly in the background, saline notes of
wet stone and subtle herbal notes dominate. On the palate, too, it is
stony and barren as a representative of its origins - the soils on which it
grew. With animatingly tart phenolics, it is taut on the palate with
immense tension and high inner density. The fruit is more
of an accompaniment than a leitmotif and underlines the saline character of this
structurally shaped wine.
Give this wine some maturity and it rewards this with a
multidimensional taste experience. Great accompaniment to monkfish or
turbot with beurre blanc and green asparagus. The 2022 Mölsheim Riesling 1G opens with a very delicate and refined bouquet with chalky lemon fruit aromas. If you like Chablis—and who doesn't?—and like to find Chablis in Riesling, this is your wine! Even without this bizarre passion, this is delicious Riesling from an excellent limestone terroir in the Zellertal.
The acidity is so finely grained and silky and the finish enormously salty. The fruit is elegant and juicy but very fine, as are the tannins. 12% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2023. Parker
