A tin-roofed, mud and straw-walled cottage sits at the centre of Gibson’s 5-acre vineyard in Light Pass. It was the original home of the local Blacksmith and his family, thought to date back to the 1850s. An enchanting artefact of the Barossa’s early European settlers, we know it simply as ‘The Smithy’.
This red wine, like The Smithy cottage itself, is full of character and unassuming charm. The quintessential Australian blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, the elements of The Smithy come together seamlessly.
The Smithy 2022 vintage boasts lifted aromas of blackberry fruit, cassis, and black olive. The palate shows beautiful freshness with layers of blackberry and boysenberry fruit intertwined with hints of sweet baking spice, crushed herbs and cocoa.
Gibson The Smithy Shiraz Cabernet is a classic Barossa red wine blend that can be enjoyed at any time of the year. It pairs particularly well with slow cooked lamb shanks or a seared rib-eye steak with garlic butter.
Dark crimson with violet hue. Lifted aromas of blackberry fruit, cassis, and black olive, come together with nuances of tobacco leaf and hints of cedar. The concentrated yet elegantly structured palate shows beautiful blackberry and boysenberry fruit intertwined with hints of sweet baking spice, crushed herbs and cocoa. All of this balanced by bright acidity and finishing with fine graphite-like tannin.
