Skillogalee Trevarrick Riesling 2023 x 6
The 2024 Trevarrick Riesling is a vivid expression of our vineyard’s unique terroir, with bright acidity, bursts of citrus, and mineral nuances. The history of Trevarrick dates back to the 1850s when John and Anne Trestrail first settled on this magnificent land, which would later become the Skillogalee estate. Today, this legacy continues with our meticulous approach to winemaking, as we reserve the Trevarrick name for the finest contour blocks that capture the essence of each vintage.
Hand-harvested from some of the highest-altitude, slowest-ripening contours on our property, the grapes for this Riesling benefit from stony, thin soils at around 500 metres above sea level. These unique conditions, coupled with sustainable farming practices and minimal intervention, result in high-quality fruit bursting with varietal character. Each contour block is individually harvested and carefully handled, allowing us to create a wine that is both structured and refined.
Upon tasting, the Trevarrick Riesling reveals an opulent character with refined acidity, a pure burst of citrus, and subtle mineral nuances. Its sharply defined structure and rocky core reflect the age-old soils and striking landscape of our estate. With vivid flavours and an elegant framework, this Riesling promises to evolve gracefully over the next decade or more, rewarding those who cellar it thoughtfully.
Vintage
The 2024 vintage in the Clare Valley has been marked by both challenges and triumphs. A dry winter and early spring led to an early budburst and flowering, followed by a wet spell until Christmas that replenished soil moisture in preparation for the dry conditions of summer and autumn. These ideal ripening conditions, along with low disease pressure, allowed the Riesling grapes to ripen early, showcasing classic restraint and varietal precision. An unexpected frost event in October and lower yields throughout the season added complexity to the vintage, yet the result is outstanding quality. The weather in January was mild and dry, leading to a ‘fast vintage,’ with most varieties harvested by the end of February.
