Product Description
Marchand & Burch Australian VILLAGE PINOT NOIR
The Mount Barrow vineyard is renowned for possessing the most extensive array of Pinot Noir clones in Western Australia, including three that have been directly imported from Burgundy. These French clones are a valuable gift from the old world, providing a strong foundation for creating wines with remarkable nuance and depth. This wide range of clones significantly enhances the character of Marchand & Burch Pinot Noirs. As Jeff notes, “Having this diversity of clones adds significant complexity to the wine.” For our Mount Barrow Pinot Noir, Burgundy clones 114 and 115 from specific blocks are predominantly used.
In contrast to the Village Pinot Noir, the Mount Barrow Pinot Noir offers a more intense and concentrated style. Crafted from older vines situated higher up the hill and slightly to the east, these vines benefit from a southeast-facing orientation that protects them from the coldest airflows. This results in a Pinot Noir that combines intensity and concentration with a delicate, lingering, and well-balanced finish, showcasing the exceptional quality achievable in this high-risk region.
